It’s JIF not GIF

Steve Wilhite, the creator of the GIF graphic format, has expressed a little dismay that his invention is frequently pronouced incorrectly.
It should be pronounced as starting with a ‘j’ and not a ‘g’

Even the Oxford English Dictionary (OED) has got this one wrong.

It’s hard to be too critical of the OED as GIF is spelt with a ‘g’, but at least Steve has cleared it up all up for us.

Full story can be found here at the BBC.

And in a final twist of irony the image used by the BBC was a .png

Don’t tell Steve whatever you do.
